Imaginations soar in Jenny McLachlan’s new book.

Growing up, author Jenny McLachlan and her brother and sisters loved playing imaginary games, building dens and inventing epic fantasy adventures. Some went on for hours, such as climbing snowy mountains and crawling through a folding camp bed that they said was home to a mysterious creature. “The games seemed real,” McLachlan tells The Week Junior. “I can remember thinking my imaginary world was much more fun than the real world.” McLachlan realised that through her writing she could bring those games to life. “The thing about books is they make your dreams come true,” she says. “You get to fly dragons and fall off dragons and nearly get eaten by sharks!” The author adds, “It’s the closest there is to magic in the real world.” Her latest book, Dragon…
