Artists protest AI use of art

Thousands of artists have asked for an auction of art made using artificial intelligence (AI) to be cancelled. An auction is a public sale in which items are sold to the person who offers the most money. The Augmented Intelligence auction is due to take place between 20 February and 5 March and will feature digital art, sketches, sculptures and paintings that have been made using AI. AI is a computer system that can be taught to do things that usually require human intelligence. The online auction is being held by Christie’s auction house (a company that allows people to buy and sell art) in New York, US, and features works with prices that range from around £8,000 to £200,000.
