Concorde was a passenger aeroplane that could travel at more than twice the speed of sound. It was designed by four companies – two in France and two in the UK – and began carrying paying passengers in 1976. During its time in operation, it made just under 50,000 flights and carried more than 2.5 million passengers. There weren’t many Concordes around – just 20 were built, and six of these were for test purposes, so only 14 ever actually carried passengers. Concorde was removed from service in 2003 for several reasons: the planes were noisy, they used a lot of fuel and the tickets were very expensive.…
