Name: Oscar “When I was a baby, I was diagnosed with DBAS (Diamond Blackfan Anaemia Syndrome), a condition where your bone marrow (the cells inside your bones)can’t produce enough red blood cells. In 2022, I needed a bone marrow transplant, where someone donates their bone marrow to you. While in the hospital, I deepened my love for art because I could do it without being too active. I painted, drew and took part in art therapy. When I got better, I realised I loved making art for its own sake and started experimenting. My Fragile Blood Cells artwork tells the story of my DBAS and how it’s still a part of me.
