The author G.M. Linton wrote My Name is Sunshine Simpson, which won the Breakthrough award at The Week Junior Book Awards in 2024. The story was inspired by her parents, who arrived in the UK from Jamaica as part of the Windrush generation in the 1950s. The Windrush generation refers to thousands of people who came to the UK from the Caribbean, and beyond, to help rebuild Britain after the Second World War (1939–1945).
