Hewett’s 10th tennis title

On 25 January, Great Britain’s Alfie Hewett won his 10th Grand Slam tennis singles title. He won the men’s wheelchair final at the Australian Open, which along with Wimbledon, the French Open and US Open, is one of the four big tennis competitions each year called the Grand Slams. Hewett defeated Japan’s Tokito Oda by two sets to zero in Melbourne. The victory was particularly sweet for Hewitt because he lost to Oda in the final of the same event last year. The Japanese player also beat Hewett to win the men’s singles gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics. “Tokito, we’ve had so many battles and finals over the last couple of years, so thank you for letting me have this one,” Hewett joked after the match.
