Sci-fi writers help predict our future

Science fiction (sci-fi) authors have always been good at predicting what the future might look like (see panel). That’s why a group of writers were asked to help the Government prepare for anything that could go wrong as a result of new technology. The writers took part in an event held by Resilience Beyond Observed Capabilities (RBOC). The RBOC is a project that brings together experts and researchers to help the UK prepare for security threats in the coming decades (a decade is a block of 10 years). It is partly funded by the Ministry of Defence (a Government agency that protects the country).
