Dogwood stems glow red

This plant grows as a shrub or tree and is found across Europe, Asia and North America. In the UK, it’s usually found growing in damp spots along the edge of woodland or as part of hedgerows. Lots of people also like to grow it in their gardens, partly because it provides some bright colour in winter, when most plants have no leaves or flowers. Dogwood is a broadleaf plant and it sheds its leaves in winter. Its twigs can be bright red in winter if they are exposed to sunlight, but they stay a bright green in the shade.
