Clean-up continues after big storms

Powerful storms across the UK and Ireland have damaged buildings, led to schools closing and left thousand of homes and businesses without electricity. On 24 January, Storm Éowyn (pronounced “Ay-oh-win”) brought very strong winds and heavy rain. The Met Office, the organisation that monitors the UK’s weather, issued red weather warnings for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland, advising people to stay safe and avoid travelling. A red weather warning is the Met Office’s most serious alert and means “dangerous weather is expected”. The UK Government sent an Emergency Alert to people’s phones in Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland.
