Fee to climb Mount Everest increases

Nepal has decided to charge people more to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain. It will do this by increasing the price of a permit, which is an official document giving mountaineers permission to climb Everest. From September, the cost of a permit will rise by £3,270. This means that people who want to climb Everest during the most popular months of April and May will have to pay £12,200. It’s the first time Nepal’s government has increased its prices in almost 10 years. Mount Everest is in the Himalayas mountain range. The border between Nepal and Tibet, which is part of China, runs across the summit of the mountain. Its peak is 8,848 metres above sea level and is the highest point of land on Earth.
