The singer who is celebrating difference
Viktoria Modesta thinks of disability differently from other people. The British-Latvian pop star has a partly prosthetic (artificial) left leg. Her dream is to live in a world where disabled people aren’t seen as “different”, but where having a prosthetic leg is “as accepted as wearing glasses”. At age 20, Viktoria had the lower part of her left leg amputated (removed) by doctors. Her leg had been damaged at birth and throughout her life Modesta had lots of operations. Eventually, she decided it was time to live without her leg. Modesta’s operation changed her life.
