“I don’t think I could imagine a childhood like hers”

Chloe Wright, aged 13, was photographed with her Jewish grandmother Yvonne Bernstein by the Duchess of Cambridge for the exhibition. “I am really honoured,” she tells The Week Junior. “It was a really cool experience.” The picture was released on Holocaust Memorial Day. Bernstein was born in Germany in 1937 and spent her early years in France hiding from the Nazis. When she was eight years old, she came to the UK, where she was reunited with her parents for the first time in years. “I don’t think I could imagine a childhood like hers,” says Wright. She admires her grandmother for her strength and perspective. “She doesn’t get upset about small inconveniences”, an attitude that Wright says rubs off on her when the two of them spend time together.…
