Let’s pretend... to go to Mars

US space agency NASA has launched an unusual recruitment drive – looking for people who want to spend a year pretending to live on Mars. The experiment, which will begin in autumn 2022, is called Mars Dune Alpha. A replica of a future Mars base and its surroundings will be 3D-printed and placed inside the Johnson Space Center at Houston in the US state of Texas. The people taking part will spend a year living in this environment, isolated from the outside world, taking part in test “spacewalks” on the surface and making do with limited supplies to imitate the experience of living and working on the Red Planet.
