A well-preserved cave lion

The remains of a 28,000-year-old cave lion cub discovered in Siberia, Russia, are in such good condition that her fur, skin, whiskers and teeth are all still intact. The cub, named Sparta, was found in permafrost – ground that has stayed frozen for many years – and researchers say that she is the best preserved ice age animal ever found. Cave lions are relatives of today’s African lions that adapted to live in colder climates during the last ice age, and grew significantly bigger than modern lions. It is thought that Sparta was one to two months old when she died.…
