The UN International Youth Day 2018 is on 12 August. This year’s theme is “Safe Spaces”. A safe space is somewhere where young people can meet, pursue their interests and share ideas and opinions. It can be a physical place – such as a community centre or a sports club – or a safe online space or child-friendly social media platform, like Popjam. Most importantly, a safe space should be somewhere where young people across the world with diverse backgrounds and identities feel confident to join in and express themselves without fear of being discriminated against.
