Amazing new animal discovered in Hawaii

In August last year, scientists spotted a strange sea creature. The first of its kind ever found, it was part melon-headed whale and part rough-toothed dolphin. The male hybrid (the offspring of two different species of animal) was spotted in the Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian island of Kauai, swimming alongside a melon-headed whale. How did this happen? No one can be totally sure but it is thought that a melon-headed whale may have become separated from its pod and joined a group of rough-toothed dolphins. Then, it mated to produce this unique marine mammal. The scientists studying this animal say that a whale-dolphin hybrid is not necessarily a new species.
