Sweden’s crown jewels are stolen

Thieves have stolen priceless jewels belonging to the Swedish royal family from a cathedral in Sweden. The police launched a hunt for the suspects and the government has declared a “national alarm”, which alerts the country’s authorities to look out for the thieves. On 31 July, two men entered Strängnäs Cathedral and stole two crowns and an orb (a golden globe with a cross on it) after breaking into a locked display case. Witnesses said they saw the thieves run out of the cathedral before escaping on bicycles to a nearby lake, where the men jumped into a speedboat that was waiting for them.
