How does glitter sparkle?

How does glitter sparkle?
How much an object sparkles is down to how light interacts with it. If a lot of light is bounced off an object, then we see that reflected light as brightness. Glitter is made up of hundreds and thousands of tiny reflective pieces that all face in slightly different directions. This means that light is reflected in lots of different directions. How much of this light falls on our eyes determines whether we see a glitter piece as super bright, less bright or dull. As we move our heads, different glitter pieces catch our eye and so appear brighter and duller. It is this change in brightness of individual small pieces that makes glitter sparkle.
