North Korea halts nuclear-weapons tests

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un surprised the world last week by announcing that he would end the country’s nuclear tests from 21 April. Nuclear weapons are the most powerful weapons in the world and are capable of destroying entire cities. North Korea has tested many nuclear weapons – the last was tested on 3 September 2017 – which has angered countries around the world. The news was announced before peace talks that were due to take place between Kim and South Korea’s leader Moon Jae-in on 27 April. South Korea and North Korea share a border, but have been enemies since the Korean War (1950–1953).
