Strong colourful clothes can often distract from a subject's face but a black & white conversion can easily avoid this

SuCh A vIBRAnT portrait might call for some colour treatment, but strip the colour away and there is also a wide tonal range with strong separation between the subject and background. It’s a good candidate for a black & white conversion. You might think me crazy to strip such as strong image of its rainbow colour, but sometimes a busy, graphic image can look better black & white. When importing images into Lightroom for shortlisting, I’ll often use its B&W Presets to preview what an image might look like converted to monochrome at varying contrast levels – it gives a good indication of what I can do to them in Photoshop.
