How to boost contrast

Recorded a scene that looks a bit bland? Learn how using the histogram in Adobe Lightroom can help to improve its exposure and contrast

THeRe’s no sucH thing as a ‘perfect’ exposure, hopefully we’ve established that by now. In truth, the only correct exposure is the one that the photographer intends to capture – you can over- or underexpose a scene to your heart’s content and, no matter what the histogram, or anyone else for that matter, says, if that’s the intended result then that’s the correct exposure for that image. The histogram is a key part of both assessing exposure in-camera, and when editing your images, so knowing how to read it is crucial (see the panel opposite for more information).
