Add special interest to images without the outlay of specialist tilt-shift lenses – all you need is Photoshop Elements, creativity and little a bit of patience…

A SHALLOW DEPTH-OF-FIELD and a shifted plane of focus are telltale signs that an image has been shot on an expensive, specialist tilt-shift lens. In reality, these sort of optics are a pipe dream for most of us. However, there is a way that you can recreate the sort of effects created by tilt-shift lenses in Photoshop Elements. The finish isn’t exactly the same as the in-camera results you’d get from using expensive glass but, when applied with care and precision, can turn an everyday image into something that grabs people's attention. The type of image that you apply this effect to largely dictates the outcome.
