MIST IS MANY a landscape photographer’s favourite phenomenon. Forming when heat rising from the ground meets cold air on a clear night, mist is best captured at sunrise as the first rays of light cut through the air. The trouble is, it doesn’t always form when expected, and when it does it can dissipate before you’ve had time to compose your shot. Fear not – using this handy technique it’s easy to add a touch of cloudy atmosphere to your landscape images. As with any technique, when you’re adding to or changing the climatic conditions in your image, it’s important to choose the right type of scene to work with.
