Cullen Potter didn’t play organized hockey until he was 10, but the 2025 NHL draft prospect got plenty of ice time with a four-time world champion – his mom

IN AN ERA WHERE sports specialization can be suffocating for kids, center Cullen Potter proves there is a different path. The 2025 NHL draft prospect and Arizona State freshman didn’t play organized hockey until he was 10, and even then, it was only to take part in the vaunted Brick Invitational Tournament in Edmonton. Instead, he spent his youth doing skills development, playing multiple sports and skating on outdoor rinks with his parents. And while all parents are proud of what their kids achieve, it does carry a little more weight when your mom is four-time world champion and Olympic gold medallist Jenny Potter of Team USA.
