AS WE WERE PUTTING this issue together, tragic news came over the wire as we learned about the passing of Nic Kerdiles, the former Anaheim Ducks prospect who died in a motorcycle accident. Kerdiles was 29 and had retired from the game in 2019, but he will always have a legacy in the hockey world. Raised in Irvine, Calif., Kerdiles became the first Orange County product to play for the Ducks when he suited up for his hometown squad in 2017. A second-round draft pick who came out of the vaunted U.S. National Team Development Program, Kerdiles was part of a growing wave of talent to emerge from California that also included the likes of Thatcher Demko and Emerson Etem.
