THERE’S A LONG-HELD axiom in hockey that if a team is looking to acquire a No. 1 center, the best path is to draft and develop one. After the Ottawa Charge missed out on a playoff spot by three points in the PWHL’s first season, GM Mike Hirshfeld took that advice to heart. In June, he selected Danielle Serdachny with the No. 2 overall draft pick in St. Paul, Minn., then signed the Edmonton native to a three-year contract in August. “We are thrilled to add Danielle as a core piece of our organization,” said Hirshfeld in a press release announcing the contract. “We love her complete 200-foot hockey game and the skill and goal-scoring she will bring to our lineup.
