EDMONTON’S PROSPECT system has been on fumes in recent years, and with just one pick in the first four rounds, it isn’t going to fix itself. The Oilers had the 32nd-ranked development system in Future Watch and made just seven total picks in 2022 and 2023.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS: The Oilers always know what they’re going to get with the top half of their roster. The uncertainty every year is finding a strong enough supporting cast to tread water against the opposition. Players such as Warren Foegele, Ryan McLeod, Adam Henrique, Corey Perry, Mattias Janmark and Sam Carrick were impressive for extended stretches. All but McLeod are UFAs this summer. Can they be retained or replaced?
