In wake of George Floyd killing, NHL players speak out and take a stand like never before. And those words are turning into action. Let’s hope it continues

WHEN IT COMES TO social activism, the first thing we have to remember is we’re talking about NHL players here. Not all, but many of them grew up in predominantly white, privileged places playing a predominantly white, privileged game. Not all, but many of them eschewed their formal post-secondary education to pursue their dreams. As the bottleneck toward the NHL tightened, so did their exposure to diverse opinions. What we also have to remember is these people owe their fans nothing more than the best effort they’re able to muster every time they step on the ice. There’s nothing that mandates them to be model citizens or even good people. And their silence does not speak volumes. All it actually does is it says nothing, one way or another. In The Last…
