YOU COULD DO A lot worse than spending summers in Whitefish, Montana. That’s where Jake Sanderson was born, and it’s where his family – including retired NHLer and father Geoff Sanderson – live in the off-season. But the defenseman for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program doesn’t take his bucolic surroundings for granted. “I love coming to Whitefish in the summer,” Sanderson said. “There’s so much to do outside, whether it’s hiking with the family or getting out on the lake in our boat and surfing. We do a lot of mountain biking, too, because there are a lot of good trails here.
