DON’T FEAR THE ASTERISK

THE NHL IS PLAYING an elaborate game of Twister as it maneuvers to stage the 2020 playoffs in the midst of chaos. And that’s heartening. Aside from the obvious benefits, it’s also an admission of sorts the league and its past are not sacred cows. We can fill the history books with asterisks if it makes us feel better, but even viewed through a telescope, those stars don’t matter. We all love the game, but we’re not in love with it. (Right?) Tuukka Rask echoes that sentiment, in a story written by Ken Campbell. When asked about the sting of losing the 2019 final, Rask admits the hurt lingers but, “you go home, start hanging out with your kids, and you realize there’s no hockey anymore.
