USUALLY, WHEN A TEAM talks about playing “playoff hockey” before the playoffs have actually begun, it’s because they were scratching and clawing their way to a post-season berth. This was not the case for the Fargo Force, who set a USHL record with 59 wins (regular season and playoffs) en route to a Clark Cup title. But first-year coach Brett Skinner still saw value in the lead-up to the playoffs, because there was a target on Fargo’s collective back. “We were playing playoff-type hockey for a few months,” he said. “Once we established ourselves in the standings, we noticed we were getting every team’s best, and they would have a little more preparation when they came to town.
