YOU COULD FEEL THE electricity in the air every time the Saginaw Spirit took the ice at the Dow Event Center during the Memorial Cup. The home team was energized by its fans all week long, and it culminated in the franchise’s first Memorial Cup championship. Sitting in the stands during the final, you could sense the passion that emanated from the fans throughout the game against London, which ended 4-3. “We’re champions,” said one Saginaw fan to his wife as the clock hit zero. “I have never been a champion!” As the final seconds ticked down, the jubilation of the crowd was matched only by the glove-throwing players on the ice.
