The reverberations from the NCAA’s rule change have spread across the hockey world, but perhaps no league is feeling the fallout more than the USHL

GLENN HEFFERAN IS A positive guy by nature. The USHL’s commissioner is helming the league at a time of unprecedented change, where the NCAA eligibility rulings have thrown the entire development landscape into flux. But he’s not panicking. “Everyone is saying the same thing, (that) no one really knows what this is going to look like a year or two from now,” Hefferan said. “The reality is that in hockey, we’re so unwilling to subscribe to change and see opportunity. That’s what I see in change: opportunity.” So far, many players have been seeking new opportunities now that major-junior players are allowed to make NCAA commitments. A sea change is already underway, with talent draining out of the BCHL (which, since its divorce from Hockey Canada, has no governing body protecting it)…
