OWNERSHIP DANNY WIRTZ NO ONE IS about to confuse the franchise with a mom-and-pop shop, but the Blackhawks are a family business. The Wirtz family first came to lead the franchise in the 1950s, when Arthur Wirtz and James D. Norris took ownership, and it came solely under the family’s umbrella following Norris’ death in 1966. From there, there has been a line of succession. Three generations of Wirtz patriarchs have handed the reins to a son – ownership has transferred from Arthur to Bill to Rocky and, following Rocky’s death in 2023, to Danny. He’s not an altogether fresh face atop the organization, however. Before he rose to chairman, Danny Wirtz was intimately involved with not just the Blackhawks but all of the Wirtz Corporation holdings, which includes Wirtz Realty, banking interests…
