With Philadelphia being named a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Daniel J. Hilferty receiving much of the credit for that success, the choice was easy. Hilferty, 66, brings a strong resume to his new position. He serves as chairman of the board of directors for Philadelphia Soccer 2026 and previously served as president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross (one of the U.S.’s leading health insurers). As chairman and CEO of Flyers owner Comcast Spectacor, along with serving as the team’s governor, Hilferty addresses a wide range of hockey-related duties.
