Molson, 52, headed the group that bought the Canadiens from American businessman George Gillett Jr. in 2009 for a reported $575 million. In its annual estimate of NHL franchise values this year, Forbes ranked Montreal third at $2.3 billion, trailing only the Toronto Maple Leafs at $2.8 billion and New York Rangers at $2.65 billion. Michael Andlauer, 57, was part of Molson’s ownership group since 2009 with a 10-percent share. Before Andlauer could complete his $950-million purchase of the Ottawa Senators in September, the self-made billionaire had to sell off his minority share in the Canadiens.
