THERE ARE seven-and-a-half minutes to go in the gold-medal game at the 2023 World Junior Championship. Czechia is down two goals to Canada in the country’s first appearance in the WJC final since 2001.
Just as hope was fading, the Czechs gained the offensive zone with the puck on their sticks. Eduard Sale received a cross-ice pass, and he finally managed to beat the Canadian goalie, but rang it off the post. Just then, Jiri Kulich crashed the crease and tapped the puck into the net to give Czechia life. Another goal just under a minute later sent the game to overtime.
