AFTER BEING BROUGHT ABOARD in the summer in an effort to propel the Maple Leafs to a Stanley Cup, Toronto GM Brad Treliving went shopping and returned with what has been, through the early part of the season, some relatively high-priced and unfortunately ill-fitting pieces.
The good news is the $12 million-plus being paid to the trio of Tyler Bertuzzi, John Klingberg and Max Domi is unlikely to define Treliving’s tenure as Leafs Nation’s chief architect. Unfortunately for Treliving, what happens next summer with pending unrestricted free agent William Nylander might.
There is no obvious answer to Treliving’s upcoming conundrum, either. On one hand, letting Nylander walk and allowing him to become the NHL’s hottest UFA is unfathomable. The 27-year-old has driven Toronto’s offense on many nights and is playing the best…
