AS OF NOVEMBER, the pencil pushers at the Texas Railroad Commission rung up the total length of pipeline assembled in the state at a hair less than 1,700 miles over the course of the calendar year. This, it should be said, encapsulates all manner of construction and conveyance. Some of that mileage can be chalked up to new builds, some to replacements, and others yet to extending existing systems. Some is intended to act as the conduit for transmission, some is dedicated to the gathering and distribution of natural gas. All told, it was a good year for pipelines.
