PREDICTION | 2ND IN ATLANTIC A LOOK AT THE LIGHTNING heading into 2023-24 suggests they are on a downward trend. The salary cap has robbed them of the depth that helped them win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021, and this summer saw much of the same, as Alex Killorn and Ross Colton, among others, became the latest to leave because Tampa Bay didn’t have salary-cap space. But suggesting Tampa Bay’s run is over and the window to another championship has closed would be a mistake. While the roster has undergone a makeover in recent seasons, star players remain at the core of what has made the Lightning great for the better part of the past decade.
