PREDICTION | 6TH IN CENTRAL CHANGE – SIGNIFICANT change – has finally come to Nashville. Barry Trotz officially became the second GM in franchise history on July 1, and he quickly made it clear that he sees things differently than his predecessor, David Poile. Coach John Hynes was fired and replaced by Andrew Brunette. Ryan Johansen was traded to Colorado, and Matt Duchene was bought out. In the short term, those moves freed up salary-cap space that Trotz used to sign players he views as leaders and proven winners, namely center Ryan O’Reilly and defenseman Luke Schenn. In the long term, those moves opened up ice time for younger players who performed well down the stretch last season when injuries decimated the Predators’ core.
