THIS COVER ISN’T ONE of our favorites because of the excellent hockey hair involved, but it’s not not one of our favorites because of that, either. While Mario Lemieux has some great flow here, Jaromir Jagr comes strong with one of the finest mullets in NHL history. Oh, and they were pretty good at hockey, too. The Penguins won back-to-back Stanley Cups in the early 1990s, with Lemieux earning the Conn Smythe Trophy both times – something that would not be accomplished again until Pittsburgh’s next savior, Sidney Crosby, won playoff MVP in 2015-16 and ’16-17. In his wrap story on this championship team, writer Tom McMillan noted the challenges ahead, such as keeping the cast together and bringing back coach Scotty Bowman.
