YOU CAN’T TALK HOCKEY history without speaking of the 1972 Summit Series, and though much ink has been spilled on the Canada-Soviet Union series, it is fun to go back and see how it was covered back then. THN co-founder Ken McKenzie was in Moscow when Paul Henderson’s magical goal gave Canada the series win. Perhaps most amusing about McKenzie’s write-up is him relaying the fact the Canucks were referred to as ‘Cream Canada’ by some reporters after their embarrassing start. But there is also a pretty definitive assessment of how the Canadians turned the tide, and McKenzie points to Boston Bruins superstar Phil Esposito as the impetus.
