LOCKOUTS THAT WIPED out the 2004-05 season and half of the 1994-95 and 2012-13 campaigns are infamous parts of league history, but the strike that threatened to end the 1991-92 season might be the boldest job action ever taken by NHL players. The first general strike in NHL history came to pass amid strife between players and owners over myriad issues, including free agency, contract lengths and trading-card revenues. After demanding but failing throughout the season to reach an agreement on a new CBA, the players gave owners a drop-dead date of April 1. Players struck down the owners’ supposed final offer by a vote of 560-4.
