AT THE TIME, IT was perhaps the most significant trade in NHL history. When the Detroit Red Wings dealt ‘Terrible’ Ted Lindsay – and, lest we forget, legendary netminder Glenn Hall – to the Chicago Black Hawks in exchange for four players on July 23, 1957, it marked the end of an era in the Motor City. The deal broke up the second incarnation of the ‘Production Line,’ with Lindsay and Gordie Howe flanking Alex Delvecchio. And the Wings – who won four Cups with Lindsay in a six-year span from 1949-50 through 1954-55 – didn’t win another championship until 1997.
