THE COVER OF THE Hockey News’ final pre-playoff issue of 2010-11 featured Tim Thomas’ head. But the story was all about the Hart. Thomas won the Vezina and Jennings Trophies in 2008-09, but the journeyman entered another stratosphere and staked his claim as one of the NHL’s best during 2010-11. At 36, Thomas paced the league in save percentage and goals-against average and earned serious MVP consideration. There was belief he’d become the oldest Hart winner, too – Thomas was one year older than Herb Gardiner or Eddie Shore during their late-career victories. The Hart win didn’t come to pass; Thomas finished a distant fifth in voting. However, the Bruins stopper earned something more precious: the Stanley Cup. And he did so by turning in arguably the NHL’s best-ever playoff goaltending performance.…
