FROM THE LIGHTING AND backdrop to the old-school Habs sweater and leather gloves, Mike Cammalleri’s cover appearance is a classic in every sense. Cammalleri took center stage in La Belle Province after inking the richest (outside) free-agent contract in club history – a five-year, $30-million pact. The expectation was Cammalleri would lead the Canadiens from Stanley Cup contention to the NHL’s winner’s circle. But Cammalleri’s deal – and Montreal’s rapid rebuild – went awry for all parties. He lasted only two-and-a-half seasons as a Canadien, and the only players brought in during the 2009 off-season still on the roster by the Canadiens’ conference final appearance in 2013-14 were Brian Gionta and Travis Moen.
