IT WAS A SPECIAL day indeed when Gordie Howe dropped by the offices in late 2006. Because let’s face it, when you’re a hockey publication and ‘Mr. Hockey’ himself pops in for a visit, well, everything gets put on hold and everybody gathers ’round. On this occasion, Howe stopped in to look at some old photos from the THN archive and chat with senior writer Ken Campbell, who penned the cover story. The nostalgia was obvious as Howe pored over the photos and shared his recollections with Campbell. Later, he graciously posed for photos with THN employees, gently grazing any chin within reach with one of his famous elbows. And, at 78, with his beloved wife, Colleen, battling Pick’s disease – she died in March 2009 – Howe’s personal warmth and…
