SUPPORT FOR THE movement hasn’t yet and may never reach a fever pitch, but there are those inside and outside the NHL who have debated a rule change that would see players serve the full duration of their penalties. This, of course, would be a change in pursuit of higher-scoring games – and it would also result in the reversion of a rulebook alteration that famed Detroit Red Wings coach Jack Adams stumped for in the mid-1950s. The legendary bench boss was an advocate for the eventual rule change that saw minor penalties end and the penalized player return to the ice after a power-play goal had been scored.
