ADD PATRICK ROY’S jubilation after surpassing Terry Sawchuk’s all-time wins record to the long list of THN covers that catalogue the major moments in hockey history. Inside, Roy’s path from standout rookie to living legend is documented, and the cover story, penned by Jim Benton, explores the season-by-season journey to the record-setting win. It was a mark that must have seemed unbreakable to some, given Sawchuk had been the NHL’s career wins king since 1961-62 and had recorded his last victory in 1969-70. The funny thing is that the timing of the cover, story and celebrations around Roy were an error.
